Gary Morris of Atlantic was a basketball and baseball star at Atlantic High School in the early 1950s. Atlantic at that time easily competed with the likes of bigger schools such as Morehead and Beaufort. He went on to continue his career in both sports and education at Louisburg College.
Gary went on to be a two-sport start at Louisburg College where he played baseball and basketball. Sometime in the 1950s a Carteret County All-Star team played the House of David, the Jewish Harlem-Globetrotters at the time.
