John Caswell Hamilton of Atlantic was a noted baseball and basketball star at Atlantic High School. He continued his baseball prowess at Campbell College (now Campbell University) and East Carolina Teachers College (now East Carolina University). Many fans in Carteret County acclaim him as one the best hitters they ever saw play. He taught and coached at East Carteret High School.
John was a player, coach and mentor to several generations of Down East athletes. He is remembered as an outstanding catcher, with a record-setting three hits in the same inning when playing for Campbell College.
