Capt. Ottis Purifoy

Capt. Ottis Purifoy was easily recognized as one of the major leaders in the establishment of Morehead City and Carteret County as a leading pleasure boat and commercial boat center on the eastern seaboard of the United States.  His seafood market and Lucky Seven fishing fleet was the hub or all the waterfront excitement during the fishing season

Shortly before his death, Capt. George Bedsworth, fellow charter boat captain, told Capt. Ottis, as storm warnings gathered …

‘You ought to go home. If a high wind comes, this place will blow apart’

Capt Ottis replied, ‘Well baby, that’s where I want to die, right here to this fish house.’

And so he did on the 11th day of April 1981..
